Environmental Art Education
Xianghai Middle School and Xianghai Nature Park
Xianghai, China
Art in a Box is working in partnership with the International Crane Foundation (ICF) on environmental art education projects in China. Through ICF, Art in a Box joined with Ms. Shi Yanqiu, the art teacher at the Xianghai Middle School in northeastern China, to develop art classes and public art projects that promote environmental awareness and support creative development in children. The school is located near the Xianghai Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve that is home to endangered species of cranes.
Children from the school created artwork for The Note Card Project. Their artwork demonstrated how people around the world can find a deeper connection to nature through art. The sale of the note cards supports environmental education in Xianghai, China. Children from the Xianghai Middle School completed a 6 meter long Mural Project that describes the life cycle of the migrating cranes through four seasons and the beauty of the natural environment at Xianghai. The mural was presented at Xianghai Nature Reserve and will be on permanent display at the Xianghai Nature Reserve Museum.
Students from the Xianghai Middle School create artwork about migrating cranes and the natural environment of the Xianghai Nature Reserve in Xianghai, China.
Art students carry their finished mural from their school through the rural town of Xianghai to the Nature Reserve.
