Silk Painting Training at the Phnom Penh School
for the Deaf
Phnom Penh, Cambodia
After years of civil war and Khmer Rouge genocide, Cambodia is now at peace but still remains one of the poorest countries in the world where people with disabilities have few opportunities for a better life. Cambodia’s rich artistic cultural heritage provides opportunities for disabled students to gain skills in traditional arts that can lead to income generation.
Students at the Phnom Penh School for the Deaf, Cambodia’s first such school, attend our Silk Painting Classes and Note Card Painting classes and learn painting and design techniques that help prepare them for careers in art. Students are also introduced to computer illustration in our Introduction to Computer Illustration Class.
Students in our Silk Painting Art Classes at the School for the Deaf learn to make art with paint, mixed media and silk.
